The core market of video games is people
18 and older.

NOT teenagers.

I say this because I am a teen and the profit is not us but truly in the adults.
Why?

Because the adults suffer from nostalgia.

in the 1990's some of the most memorable games of time came out.

BEcause these games are so memorable many adults are unable to let go of their gamer roots and will stay for the same reason you or I do. For the Lulz.

1980's-90s

Orcarina of time
Mario 64
Smash bros.
Golden Eye
Star fox.
Final Fantasy
Sonic
etc.
Half Life.

Videogames haven't even been around that long. At least not in their current grandeur. We're the growing videogame generation and that's why. Times are changing. I should mention my parents have always hated videogames and wish I quit playing lol. I think I'll always play something if I can find the time. Most likely the only reason that would keep me is not having time for it.

First computer RPG I played (not online) was stick figures moving square by square on a two tone background. Don't remember the name, but it was fun at the time.

First off, where do a bunch of kids get off telling adults what we can and can't play? Unlike a lot of children <15, most of us buy our own games. We don't get them from santa, or report cards, or the like. Second, where did this stupid generalization come from that after 'x' age video games are bad and playing them makes you a loser or outcast by default?

Adults conceptualize, program, make, and market video games. So it begs the question: What gives kids the right to play video games?

The first console I ever played on was Pong. The first one we ever owned in my house was an Atari 2600. First computer we got was a Commodore 64. I can fondly recall teaching my dad how to use it, since he'd never ever used a computer before that.

Now I', 39.. and I can still kick my kids' butts on most games and enjoy showing them how to play things like GW. The newer games are a bit much for my 62-year old father, but it sits at his computer for hours playing the games he does enjoy. The only person in my entire family that doesn't game to some degree or another is my mom, whose idea of working on a computer is have someone look up something for her.

Gaming is just part of my life and something I thoroughly enjoy. I'd still enjoy playing some paper and dice games if I had anyone to really play them with. In the mean time I like to keep my sense of fun active and my mind as agile as I can by playing all sorts of games on the computer.

I'm 15 and whoever wants to play the game can. You are right that it is created by adults.

The first game I played was Sonic the Hedgehog, its still one of my favorite games! I remember at family party all my cousins and me would just play sonic all day. It was the best. =3

Oh yes! Commondore 64 baby. My favourite game was one with a jumping pixel car back when pixels were HUGE but I cannot remember the name for the life of me. XD My dad was much better at it than me though. He even made his own pixel games lmao(and he dares tell me games are childish now!). My first videogame console was actually a PS tho. Huge timejump there. My grandfather on the other hand enjoys computer chess...
